THE STORY

A vision from the founders of Wirrim Media Pty Ltd.

WIRRIM MEDIA

'Wirrim' came from the family property name located just outside Canberra, the property was named Wirrimbirra meaning 'beautiful home'. We split the name to just Wirrim meaning 'home' and formed a media company passionate about getting stories told that deserve to be told.

The first short film was written and filmed in 2009 and we have never looked back.

We move into this new era and evolution of the company with great anticipation to work closely and creatively with NGOs and the corporate sector. We are also excited to be developing a number of other creative projects with narrative fiction through feature scripts and looking to develop feature documentaries through 2021 and 2022.

Wirrim Media Pty Limited is a wholly-owned Indigenous media production house based on the Gold Coast. Since 2007 we have dedicated ourselves to honest, raw, and inspiring storytelling. We have a growing showcase of network broadcast documentaries and several official selections into domestic and international film and art festivals for our documentaries and short dramas.

We are experienced producers, videographers, and photographers. We proudly count among our valued clients, Australian Catholic University, QUT, Reconciliation Australia, Koorie Heritage Trust, Sydney Opera House, Healing Foundation, Uni of Canberra, DFAT
and commissioned documentaries through NITV/SBS.

Head - Production

Abraham is a Proud Indigenous Man representing the Wuthathi Nation from the East Coast of Cape York. He was born in Melbourne and completed most of his schooling in Canberra. From 10 to 13 he lived in Manila, Philippines which had a profound effect on his ability to be, and stay culturally safe.

He gained his love of film as a lover of all things action sports trying to replicate both the stunts and creating similar shots. After figuring out he was better behind the camera than doing the stunts his love for film production and content creation solidified.

After a couple of snow seasons in Canada, he was back to start University and studied Exercise and Sport Science before transferring into Podiatry. With everything pointing to a career in allied health, Abe couldn't stop wanting to tell stories and moments through film.

Since then he hasn't looked back

Abraham has a strong identity and is exceptional at communication. His first and most important job during every level of production is to create a Culturally safe environment.

Abraham is a Director, Videographer, and documentary editor.

Head - Post-Production

Michael loves Cinematography, Editing and Visual Storytelling. He realised his career choice as a Filmmaker at age 19, when he started filming his mates snowboarding on a GoPro in 2009. His skills have grown considerably since then, with some great opportunities over a broad range of projects and industries, cutting his teeth in the Television Industry in Melbourne working for Channel 9, SBS and ABC on various drama series productions.

Not content with being a cog in the machine of the TV industry, he realised his passion was to be creative and free in his work, he wanted to be able to work with a team from concept to completion.

So, he started working for himself as a contractor, producing everything from live content to corporate projects, Lifestyle, Animation and Fashion, during his time in Melbourne. He later decided to move his life up to the Gold Coast, where he met the Wirrim team. He hasn't looked back since!

Michael is a Cinematographer and the Head of Post Production at Wirrim Media.
